Available data in the Arab region indicate that employment rates of persons with disabilities are much lower than those without disabilities. This current reality indicates the presence of several barriers that prevent the economic empowerment of individuals with disabilities, as well as the inaccessibility of the labour market and education system.
To address these challenges, ESCWA organized a virtual workshop on 26 February to encourage the economic participation of persons with disabilities. The workshop provided entrepreneurs with disabilities the opportunity to showcase their success stories in establishing successful businesses.
It also offered a platform for private sector companies, including SMEs, to share success stories and lessons learned on the inclusion of persons with disabilities in their entities and to provoke a dialogue with other companies that are working towards greater inclusion on how to translate this commitment into practice.
