The shift to a greener economy over the next two decades could generate 15 to 60 million additional jobs globally, which can lift tens of millions of workers out of poverty and offer opportunities for young people.

To discuss this matter, ESCWA Executive Secretary Rola Dashti participated on 17 August in a webinar organized by the UN Climate Change Regional Collaboration Centre in Dubai, on the role of youth in green economy opportunities in a post COVID-19 scenario.

Dashti stressed the need for policymakers and business leaders to support young people with an enabling environment such as better access to capacity development programmes, and finance for startups that prioritize green initiatives and adapt green technologies to sustainably manage water, deploy renewable energy, and scale up smart agriculture initiatives.
