International trade plays a crucial role in driving economic growth and shaping national policies. To strengthen the capacity of Arab countries in this field, ESCWA, in collaboration with the Arab Institute for Training and Research in Statistics (AITRS), the Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRIC), and Jordan’s Department of Statistics, organized a three-day regional workshop on Enhancing Trade Statistics for Informed Policy in the Arab Region.
Held in Amman from 22 to 24 September, the workshop aimed at providing a comprehensive understanding of statistics related to international trade in goods for Arab countries with limited or no trade statistics. It explored the global recommendations outlined in the "International Manual for Merchandise Trade Statistics".
Discussions also addressed challenges facing countries with limited trade statistics and explored best practices and alternative methodologies tailored to the region’s specific needs.
