Mainstreaming a circular economy in the Arab region: guidelines for a cross-sectoral transition

The present guidelines on mainstreaming a circular economy in the Arab region provide a comprehensive road map for Arab countries to transition from a linear to a circular economic model. This shift is essential to enhance environmental quality, build resilience, promote social equity, and stimulate sustainable economic prosperity. The guidelines are designed to support Governments in initiating or enhancing the mainstreaming of circular practices in public policies and programmes.
The present report outlines the critical steps required, including mapping the current status, setting out a vision and goals, prioritizing sectors, involving stakeholders, planning actions, aligning policies, moving from strategy to action, and ensuring monitoring and adjustment. By adopting these guidelines, Arab countries can foster a more sustainable and resilient future, by aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals and responding to the pressing environmental and socioeconomic challenges in the region.
