June 2021
The “Small-Scale Renewable Energy Technological Solutions in the Arab Region: Operational Toolkit – December 2020” report was developed within the framework of the Regional Initiative for Promoting Small-Scale Renewable Energy Applications in Rural Areas of the Arab Region (REGEND). The primary objective of the toolkit is to identify small-scale renewable energy technology (RET) solutions for the development of rural communities which in turn, increases awareness and encouragement of investment for the adoption of small-scale RETs to support social and entrepreneurial benefits, gender equality, poverty reduction and job creation as well as addresses challenges related to water scarcity, food security, energy poverty and climate change.
The report also covers case studies on implemented RETs that had an impact on rural communities with focus on gender aspects, the challenges faced, and the business models used. The conclusion summarizes the key recommendations that are focused on providing maximum value from the RETs to benefit rural communities and ensure the sustainability of the projects.
