Time use in gender statistics in Iraq

January 2010

This report presents a data analysis of the time use survey, which was carried out for the first time in Iraq, as part of the Household Socio-Economic Survey (HSES) implemented by the Central Bureau of Statistics in 2007.

The time use survey aims at providing a snapshot of people's daily lives and the amount of time devoted to accomplish various daily activities. It thus represents a rich source of information on gender by highlighting the differences between both sexes in particular. The different patterns of time allocation for both women and men, reflect the difference in the performance of their roles, their circumstances, their chances, and the consequences on their families, social lives, as well as their personal achievements.
