The 2024 Voluntary Local Review (VLR) of Ramallah City underscores the municipality’s commitment to SDG localization through inclusive, child-responsive urban governance. Supported by UN-Habitat, ESCWA, and the 2030 Agenda Sub-fund, the review builds upon the Ramallah Strategic Plan (2023–2026), ensuring its alignment with national frameworks including Palestine’s National Urban Policy (2023), National Development Plan, and UNSDCF (2023–2025). The VLR documents strategic entry points raising awareness of SDGs across stakeholders, capacity-building for child-sensitive planning, and empowerment of youth in placemaking processes to support safe, inclusive, and climate-resilient urban development. These measures are reinforced through participatory mechanisms such as youth and children’s councils and workshops guided by tools like the Public Space Policy and the Placemaking Toolkit. By anchoring its approach in evidence-based planning and rights-based participation, the Ramallah VLR positions the city as an emerging leader in SDG localization within the Arab region, with a clear path toward sustainable, equitable, and resilient urban futures.
