Energy consumption by international marine bunkers
Definition:
Quantities of fuel consumed by ships of any nationality transporting goods or passengers during international voyages (when the ports of departure and arrival are in different national territories). Fuel consumed by ships during domestic transportation and fishing are not included.
Note: For the purpose of energy statistics, international marine bunkers are not included in exports; they are recorded separately due to their importance, e.g. for the estimation of greenhouse gas emissions.
