Definition:

Programmes directed towards the protection and improvement of human health. It includes research and development on food hygiene and nutrition and also research and development on radiation used for medical purposes, biochemical engineering, medical information, rationalisation or treatment and pharmacology (including testing medicines and breeding of laboratory animals for scientific purposes) as well as research relating to epidemiology, prevention of industrial diseases and drug addiction.
