ESCWA, the United Nations Population Fund Regional Office for the Arab States, and the League of Arab States are organizing a workshop for the sixth regional review of the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) ten years after the 2013 Cairo Declaration, with the participation of national focal points from 11 Arab countries.
The workshop aims to build consensus on the methodology of the review and the proposed timeframe, in addition to presenting the guiding template that was developed to assist countries in preparing their national review reports. Participants technical observations are being incorporated into the revised version of the template, in keeping with the participatory approach to the review process.
This workshop is the first event in a series of activities relating to the sixth review of the ICPD ten years after the Cairo Declaration. The review process will culminate in a regional conference whose key messages will be submitted along with the regional review report to the 57th session of the Commission on Population and Development in April 2024.
