As part of the activities of the Multi-Stakeholder Platform for Protecting Biodiversity in the Arab Region, the three working groups established under this platform are convening a series of in-person meetings to advance collaborative efforts in biodiversity conservation and climate resilience with support from ESCWA and the Government of Sweden.
These gatherings build upon earlier online discussions and aim to develop and refine project ideas into fundable proposals. The outcomes will contribute to the Arab Multi-Stakeholder Forum on Biodiversity Finance for Climate Resilience, organized by ESCWA on 17–18 September 2025.
First round of in-person meetings
These initial meetings focus on finalizing working modalities and initiating concept development:
- Land Degradation in Arid Agricultural Ecosystems Working Group (led by the Arab Centre for the Studies of Arid Zones and Dry Lands - ACSAD): 29–30 November 2024 in Amman, Jordan.
- Nature-Based Solutions for Climate Resilience Working Group (led by the American University of Beirut - AUB): 6–7 January 2025 in Amman, Jordan.
- Renewable Energy and Biodiversity Working Group (led by the Regional Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency - RCREEE): 8–9 January 2025 in Cairo, Egypt.
Second round of in-person meetings
These follow-up meetings aim to refine concept papers into actionable project proposals:
- Nature-Based Solutions for Climate Resilience Working Group (led by AUB): 11–12 June 2025 in Beirut, Lebanon.
- Land Degradation in Arid Agricultural Ecosystems Working Group (led by ACSAD): Date and location to be confirmed.
- Renewable Energy and Biodiversity Working Group (led by RCREEE): Date and location to be confirmed.
