Sand and dust storms are a growing environmental and socio-economic challenge across the Arab region, affecting health, agriculture, infrastructure and livelihoods. ESCWA is leading a regional workshop series aimed at strengthening the capacities of Arab meteorological services in sand and dust storm analysis, forecasting and modelling.
The series brings together national meteorological agencies, research institutions, and regional centres to enhance collaboration, improve data exchange, and promote the use of advanced tools for sand and dust storm monitoring and early warning.
These workshops contribute to improving regional preparedness, strengthening operational coordination, and supporting evidence-based decision-making to reduce the impacts of sand and dust storms in the Arab region.
