ESCWA is organizing a four-day study tour in partnership with the National Council for Scientific Research – Lebanon to strengthen government officials’ and policymakers’ capacity to map, monitor and analyse solar energy access and use the findings in policymaking. Held at the UN House and CNRS-L headquarters, the tour brings together officials from ESCWA member States working in energy, statistics and geospatial information.
Through hands-on exercises, technical demonstrations and peer exchange, participants use geospatial technologies, satellite imagery, remote sensing and artificial intelligence to detect, map and monitor solar photovoltaic (PV) systems. They apply the project’s digital platform and interactive technical toolkit to real-world scenarios and case studies, exploring how the findings support renewable energy planning, target setting and progress monitoring. Participants also share national experiences and good practices to help scale up these approaches across the Arab region.
The tour builds on the capacity-building workshop series under the project on “Improved mapping and monitoring of solar energy access for enhanced climate policy action and socio-economic resilience”.
