About two-thirds of the freshwater resources in the Arab region are transboundary. Since water management measures taken in one country can significantly impact resources in neighbouring countries, cooperation among riparian States is essential to ensure effective management.
On 2 and 3 September, ESCWA, in collaboration with the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), organized a meeting in Jordan to strengthen cooperation on transboundary water, promote sustainable and integrated water resources management at all levels, and enhance data sharing and monitoring.
The meeting featured presentations, panel discussions, and interactive sessions addressing key challenges and opportunities in managing shared water resources. It also provided a platform for participating countries to exchange experiences and best practices.
