On 8 July, ESCWA organized a capacity-building workshop in Beirut for staff from Electricité du Liban (EDL) and the Central Administration of Statistics (CAS) on the use of AI-enabled geospatial tools to detect installed solar photovoltaic systems and map access to solar energy, informing decision-making and supporting climate action.
The workshop marked the final country session in a series launched in March for government officials from each of Djibouti, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, and Yemen. It was held under the Improved Mapping and Monitoring of Solar Energy Access for Enhanced Climate Action and Socioeconomic Resilience project, in collaboration with the National Council for Scientific Research – Lebanon (CNRS-L).
Participants' feedback will help further refine the AI detection model developed through the project, enhancing its accuracy and supporting wider adoption across the region.
