During the 8th United Nations Global Road Safety Week themed “Streets for Life: Making Walking and Cycling Safe”, ESCWA held a regional workshop on 14 May with the participation of representatives of member States and specialized regional and non-governmental organizations.
This year’s Road Safety Week focuses on making walking and cycling safe. It explores concrete interventions that can be implemented by various stakeholders, including Governments, international agencies, civil society, businesses and schools, to facilitate a shift towards healthier and more sustainable modes of transport.
In the same realm, ESCWA organized a regional workshop on 13 May on road safety data collection and analysis, as part of a pilot project implemented in Lebanon, Qatar and Tunisia. Participants discussed a proposed mobile application for traffic crash data collection.
