As part of the preparations for the fifth regional review of the Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing (MIPAA), ESCWA and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Regional Office for Arab States, organized an online workshop for national focal points on older persons and for representatives of national statistical offices to discuss the preparation of national MIPAA review reports.
The workshop, held on 4 February, focused on the quantitative section of the guiding template for national reports and highlighted the role of national statistical offices in tracking MIPAA implementation. It aimed to strengthen coordination between producers and users of data on older persons, thereby improving the evidence for policymaking and strategy development.
The workshop underscored the importance of reliable and disaggregated data in understanding the demographic, social, and health conditions of older persons, and in ensuring an inclusive, participatory, and evidence-based review process to monitor the implementation of the Madrid Plan of Action.
