In line with efforts made to strengthen local development, ESCWA organized a training workshop in Oman on the Governorates Competitiveness Index, which it developed towards the end of 2024, to promote a culture of data-driven analysis in support of development and enhancing competitiveness.
The workshop, held on 16 and 17 February in collaboration with the Ministry of Economy as part of the second phase of updating and institutionalizing the Index, aimed at enabling governorates to measure development performance and track progress over time.
The workshop enhanced participants’ understanding of local competitiveness and its economic scope, as well as the statistical methodology behind the Index. It also focused on analyzing results and linking them to development programmes and public policies, in line with Oman Vision 2040.
