Action plan for achieving gender equality and women’s empowerment in national institutions in the Arab Region: A guide to support the implementation of the plan

ESCWA seeks to support national institutions in the Arab region in enhancing equal access for women and men to the services provided by of these institutions, and in ensuring the inclusion of both women and men in their legal frameworks, policies, strategies and programmes. To achieve this, ESCWA, in collaboration with national women's machineries and several national entities in the Arab region, is working to implement the “Action plan for achieving gender equality and women’s empowerment in national institutions.”
This document provides the necessary information and technical guidance for applying the action plan, emphasizing the importance of gradual and flexible implementation. The plan includes ten performance indicators distributed across six pillars: accountability, results-based management, oversight, human and financial resources, capacities, in addition to coherence and knowledge and information management. The action plan serves as an accountability framework aimed at mainstreaming the concept of gender equality within national institutions.
