Definition:

Land redistribution is an effort by governments to modify the distribution of land ownership. It is often an attempt to transform an agrarian structure composed mainly of large-scale farms into one where family farms are predominant by taking land away from large landowners, or the state, and redistributing it to tenants and landless peasants. Historically, land redistribution has been carried out to abolish feudal, colonial, or collective forms of landownership and more generally to correct old wrongs, According to the conventional definition, redistributive land reform is a public policy that transfers property rights over large private landholdings to small farmers. Redistributive reforms are the transfer of tenure rights from the owners to new beneficiaries. Such reforms are often promoted to provide more equitable access.; Allocation of land, fisheries and forests to beneficiaries in order to provide more equitable access.
