Statistical Terms Glossary

A collection of procedures used to manage work flow in a collaborative environment. In a CMS, data can be defined as almost anything - documents, movies, pictures, phone numbers, scientific data, etc. CMSs are frequently used for storing, controlling, revising, and publishing documentation. Content that is controlled is industry-specific. (Entertainment content differs from the design of a fighter jet). There are various terms for systems (related processes) that do this. Examples include: Web Content Management, Digital Asset Management, Digital Records Management, Electronic Content Management (and others). Synchronization of intermediate steps, and collation into a final product are common goals of each.

Is the technical underpinning of a content application, like a Content Management System or a Document Management System to be more specific. It functions as the logical storage facility for content.

A contestable market is one in which the following conditions are satisfied:
a) there are no barriers to entry or exit;
b) all firms, both incumbent and potential entrants, have access to the same production technology;
c) there is perfect information on prices, available to all consumers and firms;
d) entrants can enter and exit before incumbents can adjust prices.
In contrast to perfect competition, a contestable market may have any number of firms (including only one or a few) and these firms need not be price-takers. The analysis of contestable markets is designed for cases in which the existence of scale economies precludes a large number of competitors.

A market where there is freedom of entry and exit is costless. Potential entrants can enter such markets whenever profits exceed the normal rate.

Factors that together constitute the complete context of an individual’s life, and in particular the background against which health states are classified in the International Classification of Functioning. There are two components of contextual factors: environmental factors and personal factors.

A continental shelf typically extends from the coast to depths of 100–200 m (330–660 feet). In nearly all instances, it ends at its seaward edge with an abrupt drop called the shelf break.

These are contractual financial arrangements whose principal characteristic is that one or more conditions must be fulfilled before a financial transaction takes place. Contingencies are not recognized as financial assets (liabilities) on balance sheet because they are not actual claims (or obligations). However, these arrangements can potentially affect financial soundness.

A separate fund or a budget provision set aside to meet unforeseen and unavoidable requirements that may arise during the budget year. Certain types of contingency (such as meeting loan guarantee obligations) may be specified as a potential use for such funds.

Contingent assets arise from contractual financial arrangements between institutional units which do not give rise to unconditional requirements either to make payments or to provide other objects of value; often the arrangements themselves do not have transferable economic value so they are not actual current financial assets and so they should not be recorded in the System of National Accounts (SNA); the principal characteristic of contingencies is that one or more conditions must be fulfilled before a financial transaction takes place.

Obligations that have been entered into, but the timing and amount of which are contingent on the occurrence of some uncertain future event. They are therefore not yet liabilities, and may never be if the specific contingency does not materialize.

Type of IBRD "B" loan whereby the loan is initially financed entirely by the commercial lender with IBRD having a contingent commitment to finance at a given date (i.e., at the end of the duration considered "normal" by the commercial markets for the specific borrower) the remaining balance of principal (if any), if the commercial lenders choose not to finance this amount.

A facility to enable the World Bank to engage in currency swaps with European entities with a credit standing equivalent to A or AA. Under the facility,the Bank would enter into swaps directly with European counterparties introduced by Deutsche Banks and others.

Contingent valuation refers to the method of valuation used in cost—benefit analysis and environmental accounting. It is conditional (contingent) on the construction of hypothetical markets, reflected in expressions of the willingness to pay for potential environmental benefits or for the avoidance of their loss

For the purpose of these indicators, continuing education and training for adults is defined as all kinds of general and job-related education and training that is organised, financed or sponsored by authorities, provided by employers or self-financed.

Continuing students are students who were included in the enrolment statistics at that level the preceding reference year

The property whereby the price index is a continuous function of its price and quantity vectors.

In theory, the continuity rules would be derived from the definition of the enterprise (or other units) and its statistical uses. In principle, the continuity of an enterprise depends on the continuity of its production factors: employment, machines and equipment, land, buildings, management, and intangible assets. The continuity of these factors can be measured and weighted to decide upon the continuity of the enterprise. In practice, the continuity rules consider three main criteria: continuity of control, economic activity and location.

Crops which are harvested continuously throughout the season, such as carrots radishes, sweet potatoes, etc., or crops which are standing in the field more than a year, like sugar cane. The estimation of their production has to include all the harvest during the year.

Uninterrupted pouring of water (or irrigation) on to plants or soil in order to keep them moist at all times.

The Continuous Synopsis Record is intended to provide an on-board record of the history of the ship with respect to the information recorded therein.

The radio watch concerned shall not be interrupted other than for brief intervals when the vessel's receiving capability is impaired or blocked by its own communications or when the facilities are under periodical maintenance or checks.
