ESCWA and the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs in Iraq are organizing a workshop to develop the draft action plan to implement the National Policy for Older Persons in Iraq (2024-2028).
The workshop aims to gather the information needed to develop the implementation framework of the National Policy for Older Persons, through a participatory approach that brings together multiple stakeholders. It seeks to achieve the following:
- Present the elements and objectives of the National Policy and discuss emerging issues since its formulation, as well as the anticipated challenges during implementation.
- Analyse the proposed activities under each policy component, and define and agree on the implementation framework for each activity.
- Propose priorities for improvement and development.
- Define the roles and responsibilities of the entities involved in implementation, and explore ways to enhance coordination among them.
The workshop gathers representatives from various ministries, government agencies, and institutions concerned with issues related to older persons, alongside representatives from international and regional organizations, national non-governmental organizations, and experts from ESCWA.
