ESCWA and the Ministry of Social Affairs, in collaboration with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Lebanon, are launching the Action Plan for the National Strategy for Older Persons in Lebanon 2020-2030. The event is being held under the patronage of the Minister of Social Affairs, Hector Hajjar, with the participation of members of the Permanent National Commission on Older Persons in Lebanon, as well as various governmental and non-governmental stakeholders.
The action plan was developed by the Ministry of Social Affairs with the support of ESCWA and in collaboration with UNFPA to streamline the implementation of the National Strategy for Older Persons, which sets forth an ambitious vision for Lebanon as an inclusive society for all ages.
The action plan aligns with international frameworks, most notably the Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing (MIPAA), as well as the Sustainable Development Goals. It outlines a multi-sectoral intervention pathway based on the pillars and objectives of the National Strategy and includes integrated programmes and activities aimed at protecting and empowering older persons, defining the roles of key stakeholders, and enhancing coordination.
