In the Arab region, available data indicate that employment rates of persons with disabilities are significantly lower than those without disabilities. Despite the presence of national legislation and policies that protect the employment rights of persons with disabilities, major barriers continue to hinder their economic empowerment.
To overcome these challenges, ESCWA, in partnership with the United Nations Global Compact Network Lebanon and the ProAbled programme of the nongovernmental organization shareQ, held on 23 and 24 September two trainings for companies committed to achieving disability-inclusive workplaces in the Arab region.
The first training was held online and served as an introduction to workplace inclusion of persons with disabilities. The second training was conducted in-person at the UN House in Beirut and focused on the steps that should be taken to ensure an inclusive workplace with participants from Lebanon.
