Held in Cairo and online, the 14th Workshop on Voluntary National Reviews (VNRs) in the Arab Region is part of the regional workshop series organized since 2019 by ESCWA, the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs and the League of Arab States. The workshop invites participants to reflect on sustainable development through 2030 and beyond, using population ageing as a timely lens for assessing how well the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals are guiding long-term, integrated, inclusive, rights-based and evidence-informed policies.
The workshop brings together VNR practitioners, ageing focal points, regional organizations and United Nations entities to exchange national experiences, deepen peer learning and identify practical ways to integrate population-ageing considerations into SDG implementation, reporting and future development agendas. Discussions highlight progress, gaps and good practices related to the 2030 Agenda and the Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing, while shaping key regional messages to feed into post-2030 consultations and the Regional MIPAA+25 Review processes.
