This event comprises two sequential meetings. The first is an expert group meeting organized by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE). It focuses on advancing global CPI practices, and delves into the modernization of price statistics, focusing on the integration of advanced data methodologies and the enhancement of statistical frameworks.
Subsequently, ESCWA is hosting a specialized meeting for Arab countries. It is designed to translate the global advancements discussed in the first meeting into practical applications tailored to the unique challenges faced in the Arab region. It focuses on the practical implementation of new CPI methodologies, addressing regional challenges in data collection, aligning household budget surveys with the Classification of Individual Consumption According to Purpose (COICOP) standards, and updating CPI baskets and base years to reflect the economic conditions and consumption patterns specific to the Arab region.
