The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), in partnership with the Regional Office of the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN-WOMEN), the Arab Women’s Organization (AWO), and the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States (LAS), is organizing the Arab regional preparatory meeting for the sixty-third session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW 63) which will take place at the United Nations Headquarters in New York in March 2019.

This regional preparatory meeting, which will be held on 4 February 2019 in Cairo - Egypt, aims to unify the Arab states’ vision and develop a consolidated Arab position on the CSW 63 priority theme “social protection systems, access to public services and sustainable infrastructure for gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls”. The meeting will also serve as a platform to discuss the linkages and interdependence between the issues of gender equality and women empowerment on one hand, and ensuring social protection, access to public services and sustainable infrastructure on the other.
