ESCWA, in collaboration with the Competition Protection and Monopoly Prevention Center at the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion in Oman, is convening a workshop and stakeholder consultations as part of the ongoing study on the building materials sector in Oman.
The workshop (9 and 10 June 2026) focuses on presenting and validating the study’s findings, including the institutional and legal frameworks, macroeconomic context, and selected building materials subsectors. Discussions assess how well the analysis reflects market realities, identify remaining data and analytical gaps, and help refine the findings and recommendations. The workshop uses an interactive format with brief analytical presentations, guided discussions, and group exercises.
On 11 June 2026, bilateral consultations are held with private sector representatives and investors across key building materials subsectors, including cement and cement products, iron, aluminum, pipes, paints, cables, and tiles, ceramics, and marble. The consultations aim to capture firm-level perspectives on market dynamics, supply chains, input availability, logistics, pricing, procurement, barriers to entry and expansion, investment conditions, and operational and regulatory challenges. They also strengthen the study’s qualitative dimension by helping interpret quantitative findings and offering practical insight into how market structures and competition work in practice, in support of evidence-based policymaking, stronger market efficiency and competition, and Oman’s economic diversification goals.
