ESCWA and ESCAP, with the support of the Government of Sweden, are convening this meeting to advance the Interregional Initiative to Combat Sand and Dust Storms in Western Asia by translating its strategic objectives into concrete actions. Participants discuss the anticipated outcomes of the initiative, including fostering policy coherence and consensus on joint approaches, establishing a shared knowledge base, and identifying regional and multi-country implementation actions. The initiative is an outcome of the Dialogue Series on Fostering Interregional Collaboration on Sand and Dust Storms.
The meeting includes a discussion on the establishment of the Western Asia Platform on Sand and Dust Storms and related operational modalities called for under the initiative, offering an opportunity to identify areas for collaboration and support for joint efforts that address sand and dust storm challenges across the region.
