The ESCWA Statistics, Information Society and Technology Cluster and the United Nations Population Division (UNPD) are jointly organizing a regional webinar on “National and international population estimates in the Arab region: challenges and analytical strategies”.
This event responds to concerns raised by national statistical offices (NSOs) during the technical advisory group meetings on demographic and social statistics in Arab countries, regarding discrepancies between their figures and UNPD’s estimates. The purpose of the webinar is to enhance understanding and cooperation between NSOs and international experts in demography regarding the methodologies used for generating population estimates and projections, with a focus on bridging the gap between national and international estimates. It also highlights the analytical process used in the World Population Prospects, to reconstruct demographic trends from 1950 to 2025 across 237 countries and regions.
