The League of Arab States and the Ministry of Social Solidarity in the Arab Republic of Egypt, in collaboration with the Statistics Division at the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), held the Arab Regional Seminar on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities as part of the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the Sustainable Development Plan 2030, on 13-14 January 2019 at the headquarters of the Secretariat of the League of Arab States.

The key objective of the regional seminar is to seek ways of reaching a common understanding among participants on the definition of best practices in the development, activation and impact measurement of evidence-based policies, linking the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities with the Sustainable Development Plan 2030, and to display and dedicate the direct and indirect linkages between the Convention and the goals of sustainable development with a framework representing the Arab region's issues of producing comparable and coordinated data that contribute to the involvement of all in development and in the integration of comprehensive social protection systems into public policies.
