Study Tour in France to Explore Treated Wastewater Reuse

As part of the Resilient Water Solutions Against Climate Change project, funded by the Adaptation Fund, UNICEF, ESCWA and UN-Habitat are organizing a study tour to France under the Resilient Water Solutions Against Climate Change project. The tour aims to exposefor representatives of water utilities and institutions from Jordan and Lebanon. The study tour is providing participants with first-hand exposure to treated wastewater reuse solutions for agricultural irrigation, with the objective of strengthening knowledge of the technical, legal, institutional and to strengthen their understanding of thegovernance frameworks needed forthat support safe, and sustainable and water reuse in the context of climate-resilient water reusemanagement.

Taking place from 11 to 16 January 2026, the study tour includes field visits to wastewater treatment plants and reuse systems in Clermont-Ferrand, Montpellier and Narbonne, as well as technical exchange sessions with Ecofilae, a company specializing in water reuse, and the National Research Institute for Agriculture, Food and Environment (INRAE). Participants include representatives of the Bekaa Water Establishment, the Yarmouk Water Company, the Water Users Association being established in Lebanon, Zahle Municipality, and project teams from UNICEF, ESCWA and UN-Habitat. They visit wastewater treatment and reuse sites in Clermont-Ferrand, Montpellier and Narbonne and meet with Ecofilae and INRAE to exchange practicalThe programme is enabling participants to exchange experiences with local authorities, researchers, irrigation associations and farmers and to identify good practices and lessons.
