The Arab Mayors Academy is launching its third edition, co-led by UN-Habitat and ESCWA. The Academy offers mayors, governors and senior municipal leaders from across the Arab region a platform to strengthen leadership, exchange experiences and advance sustainable urban development.
The 2026 programme focuses on translating knowledge into practical action and measurable results. It supports local leaders in aligning city priorities with the Sustainable Development Goals and other internationally agreed development frameworks, provides executive training on priority urban issues, promotes regional tools, data and platforms for evidence-based policymaking, and fosters peer learning, collaboration and a regional network of local leaders.
The third edition begins with an in-person launch event entitled “Driving Local Transformation: From SDG Localization to Cities with a Better Quality of Life and Greater Resilience”, hosted by the Greater Amman Municipality. Participants explore approaches to localizing the SDGs, improving quality of life and strengthening urban resilience through interactive sessions and practical discussions.
