The Federal Ministry of Human Resources and Social Welfare of the Sudan, with technical support from ESCWA, has prepared the National Strategy for Older Persons 2025–2030 with the aim of integrating the rights and concerns of older persons into national policies and enhancing their participation in development.
To complement these efforts, the Ministry, in cooperation with ESCWA, is organizing a workshop to prepare the draft action plan for the National Strategy for Older Persons, to translate strategic directions into actionable measures. The action plan serves as a multisectoral framework for implementing the strategy’s pillars and objectives, aimed at empowering and protecting older persons, based on a comprehensive human rights approach, and guided by gender equality, a lifecycle approach, evidence-based policymaking, and strong partnerships.
The present workshop aims to lay the initial foundations of the action plan through a participatory approach that brings together key stakeholders. It focuses on identifying priorities, defining practical activities, setting mechanisms for implementation and follow-up, and clarifying roles of stakeholders. Participants include representatives from relevant departments in the Ministry, as well as partner ministries and government institutions involved in the implementation of the strategy.
