ESCWA, in collaboration with Iraq’s Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs and the Commission on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and Special Needs, is organizing a workshop to review and validate the findings of the Rapid Assessment on the economic empowerment of persons with disabilities in Iraq.
The event brings together senior officials from the Ministry, representatives from various ministries and agencies, civil society actors, organizations of persons with disabilities and other stakeholders. It creates a space for participants to work jointly to design a National Plan of Action to implement the recently amended Act on Persons with Disabilities. The workshop provides a platform to identify key components of the Plan, agree on priority interventions, and ensure that the voices and expectations of the organizations of persons with disabilities are fully reflected. A key outcome of the meeting is a shared roadmap to advance inclusive economic empowerment and labour opportunities for persons with disabilities throughout Iraq.
