ESCWA is partnering with the Executive Office of the Council of Social Affairs and Labour Ministers for the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), and the GCC Statistical Center (GCC-STAT) to produce the third sub-regional report on the progress and challenges of implementing the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) in the six Arab Gulf countries: Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
In this context, ESCWA is participating in the “Workshop on developing and adopting the indicators for the third report on the implementation and monitoring of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in the Gulf Cooperation Council”.
The two-day workshop focuses on:
1) Reviewing the impact of the 2nd GCC report on CRPD implementation,
2) Exploring the outcomes of the third Gulf workshop on disability statistics that was held in 2023,
3) Exploring regional and international practices in setting indicators for CRPD implementation,
4) Adopting a participatory approach and include persons with disabilities in the preparation and dissemination of the 3rd report.
Also, ESCWA is participating as an observer at the first official meeting of the “Gulf disability inclusion experts team” that takes place on the second day of the workshop to follow-up on the reporting process.
