ESCWA and the United Nations Population Fund Regional Office for Arab States are conducting the 5th regional review process of Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing. Member States prepare voluntary national reports, which regional commissions compile into a single report summarizing priorities, challenges, and best practices.
The review process includes a series of regional capacity-building workshops for government representatives and consultative dialogues with stakeholders and parliamentarians to ensure a whole-of-society approach. The process culminates in a regional review conference in 2027, bringing together high-level representatives from Arab countries, civil society organizations, parliamentarians, academics and experts. The outcomes of the conference and key findings of the regional review report will inform the report of the Secretary-General to the 66th session of the Commission on Social Development convening in 2028.
